Reasons to Believe Meeting
October 12, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Please join us for our Reasons to Believe chapter meeting on Fri., Oct. 12, at 7:00PM in the Family Center Rooms 524-525. We will watch two videos on the importance of worldviews. In the first video, RTB Scholar Kenneth Samples discusses the worldviews of the world’s religions and responds to three popular questions: 1) Why can’t all the world’s religions be true? 2) Isn’t Jesus just another religious leader? and 3) What makes Christianity unique among the world’s religions? In the second video, Christian Professor of Philosophy Dr. J.P. Moreland argues that the most significant issue facing us today in the West is worldview. Dr. Moreland discusses three worldviews dominant in Western culture and especially in the United States today: 1) scientific naturalism, which says the only truths worth knowing are scientific truths; 2) moral relativism, which says what you believe is an outgrowth of your culture and no such belief system is wrong; and 3) Christian theism. Dr. Moreland says we need to be able to show others that Christian theism is true. He tells us what truth is, describes three kinds of knowledge, explains what it means to say we know the central claims of Christianity are true and what it doesn’t mean, and then he defines faith. He says this will help us when we tell people we know there’s a God. Our meetings are always free of charge. We will have a drawing for some free RTB resources. Refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to come.
