Reasons to Believe
September 14 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Please join us for our September Reasons to Believe chapter meeting on Fri., Sept. 14, at 7:00PM in the Family Center Rooms 524-525. We will view two videos, featuring RTB President and Founder Hugh Ross. Since planet Earth is so obviously habitable, it is easy to think that its habitability was inevitable and no big deal. But Dr. Ross shows in the first video that Earth’s habitability depends on a number of contingent events. Dr. Ross focuses on three of these, the end of a finely-tuned ice age cycle, an exactly middle-aged sun, and extreme climate stability, showing that relatively small deviations from the fine tuning of each of these events would preclude life on Earth as we know it. But because of this fine-tuning, huge numbers of people can experience redemption. In the second video, Dr. Ross describes encounters he had with an Uber driver and with an atheist quantum physicist while traveling, both of whom were eager to question Dr. Ross on how he could reconcile the book of Genesis with science, and why the universe is so large, so massive, so old, and so dark. Dr. Ross shares his answers with us in this video. Dr. Ross earned a PhD in Astronomy from the University of Toronto and did post-doctoral work on quasars at CalTech before founding Reasons to Believe. Our meetings are always free of charge. We will have a drawing for some free RTB resources. Refreshments will be served. Guests are encouraged to come.
